Last time I covered the Latinx and Black Oscar issues. This continuation is a bit more complicated.
LGBTQ AND OSCAR
On the one hand we have a community as my gay friend has said been on the “war path” for the last twenty years. If you offend someone in the LQBTQ community it will literally be identical to an Oscar Film. ( Knives Out). If you don’t believe me read anything on the Lipstick alley website.
Now as a straight person I have to rely on others for their opinions on certain issues ( cleared by the friend ) unless, the infraction is so obvious well, anyone, including me can say WTF.
The number of LGBTQ Oscar winners, film nominees etc. exceed those in any other category for Oscar. Especially those of the Latinx and Black community.
Remember Robin Williams in that Miami set film, Julie Andrews ( Victor/Victoria) etc. etc. ( 1 win 1 win for each film)
Sticking only with the category of Americans, we find a double play of nominees/winners Paul Winfield, Elliot Page ( Ellen) and Jodie Foster have won Oscar. And then there is another double dipper Lee Daniels.
“My gay friend” of mine has urged me to write a night time gay themed soap opera. Maybe that could be converted into a feature film. I told him it’s been done before and I have included a she/he/ they character in my recent YA horror novella.
I told him I remembered Billy Crystal ‘s character in Soap. Then there is the gay couple in Modern Family and even now NCIS Hawaii has a lesbian couple. But when it comes to Oscar season, there are two types of genres for the LGBTQ community; comedy or suffering.
Often in the #Oscar so category, films with a gay theme, if not a gay cast have received Oscar nominations Tom Hanks won an Oscar in the film Philadelphia.
While the LGBTQ community has dominated the costume design category, the number of straight persons who have been nominated and won an Oscar are well too many.
But some things have changed, recently Scar Jo had to drop out of a movie featuring a Trans woman.
So we have covered Blacks, Latinx and the LGBTQ community.
Next time in part three of #Oscar so.. we cover the Asian American community and the actors’ quest for Oscar.
Ciao.
