Mid points

Chapter 4 turns into Chapter Nine

A big thing in changing anything is making sure your original intent remains the same, and that you have changed the original to include something new.

The central point of any midway educational writing course or book is to ensure that the student’s goals are being met.

Confusing isn’t it?

The first edition

Well, in the first edition Chapter four was halfway home. I was writing about your character’s voice.

  1. Character Presence
  2. A Character’s Motives

Chapter four in the first edition was 16 pages.

The second edition

In the second edition the midway point was Chapter Nine. In this chapter I wrote about the television treatment and logline.

I covered three pages.

The big difference in this approach was that in the previous chapters seven and eight were 16 pages combined.

Now ten years ago you had hot science fiction television shows such as Caprica ( blah) Heroes, ( never really watched it), the X Files ( end of the great TV series), Lost and Battle Star Galatica.

I included Battle Star Galatica, because its one of my personal favorites and while it dived a little after season 3, it still sustains itself ten years later. ( It is even in reruns on antenna TV)

Chapter Nine

When I wrote Chapter nine my intent was two fold. It was a follow up to the preceding chapters that covered Star Trek Discovery Season 2 and the Expanse season 2.

Chapter Nine covered the mid way point of the book and the intersection of film verses television.

The process

Different perspectives in ten years, like back then when you filed for a copyright, it might take 6 months to receive the certificate. This time it took about three weeks.

So the moral of this piece is this. Whatever you write and then rewrite, remember it is not set in stone. In fact, you can burst the seams of the old book like I did in this one and expand the pages to a writer’s delight.

I’m shooting for a November 1, release date.

Ciao
